The people at the other end of the plate — three boats, a handful of islands, and the growers whose names are on the cellar wall.

Recent letters

The Theoharis family of Ano Mera · 18.03.2026

Three generations, one boat, and the calamari that goes into the stuffed dish. Written after a long afternoon in their yard — mostly about nets, and briefly about us.

Captain Petros Maroulis · 21.02.2026

Sardines, vine smoke, and the argument about whether the small fish or the big fish is the harder thing to catch well. Petros is firmly on one side of it.

Schinoussa, and the fava we do not grow · 04.02.2026

We have half an acre of terraces and we still buy the fava in. This is why, and who from, and what happened when we tried to grow it ourselves in 2016.

Who we buy from

The three boats

Captain Vasilis Roussounelos and his caique “Aphroditi”, Captain Petros Maroulis, and the Theoharis family of Ano Mera. They land at the Houlakia steps between 6:30 and 8:00, before the wholesalers see any of it.

Four islands on the cheese board

Tinos, Naxos, Sifnos, and whichever of Folegandros or Amorgos we could get that week. Always four, always islands, and never a supplier list longer than the board itself.

Marina’s growers

T-Oinos on Tinos, Sigalas, Vassaltis and Hatzidakis on Santorini, plus the small Paros and Naxos benches that change most between seasons.
